A Family Centre is engaged in activities for parents and their children.

Its aim is to provide health promotion, family support and early prevention.

“A Family Centre should include maternity and child health care, an open pre-school and preventative social service.

A Family Centre employs various professionals such as Midwives, Paediatric nurses, Pediatricians, Psychologists, Preschool teachers and Social workers.
They collaborate to provide a service to the needs of children and their parents. Other professionalls such as Health promoters, Librarians, Family counselors and Community workers can also work at Family Centres.

The feature of Family Centres is that principals and local government coordinate their resources to enable multidisciplinary collaboration and early prevention.”

The Family Centre – a Venue. Family Centres aim to provide children and their families with the best start in life.

They offer an open friendly and safe place for children to play and develop. It is also a place for parents to meet and exchange experiences.

A Family Centre is a meeting place for families in a neighbourhood or a community. The foundation is maternity and child health care in collaboration with an open pre-school and preventative social service gathered together under the same roof.

The United Nations Convention on the right of the child is always a guide for all work in Family Centres.

The main goals are to stimulate the development and health of children and families, to support and strengthen parents in their role as caregivers, to develop the social networks of children and parents, to act as a meeting place for children and families, to develop working models which engage children and parents, to identify physical, mental and social risk factors at an early stage, to encourage an equal parenthood, to develop multi-professional collaboration between the services, to act as a centre for information and competence, to provide knowledge that is based on scientific research and evidence.
